We have just returned from New York - you will love it, everyone does!!

We stayed at Hotel 41, West 41st Street, which is in Times Square. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the heart of Times Square, I promise.

The rooms are smaller than you would normally expect, but as 2 slender people, we had no problems at all, and anyway who spends that much time in a room when you are in New York!

We booked through Expedia.co.uk but you can book directly with the hotel itself, https://www.hotel41.com. Rates were reasonable at approx £360 for 5nights, plus a complimentary breakfast in the mornings.

I have enclosed a copy of my hotel review that I posted on tripadvisor last week, in case you want to consider it further.

Can't recommend this enough in terms of location and value for money x

We stayed at Hotel 41 from 23rd Feb - 1st March in room 305. The location of this hotel really is excellent. It is a 2 minute walk to the heart of Times Square with a subway directly opposite the front door.

The rooms, although are small, were not as small as others on this site have made them out to sound. The room was decorated well and had a nice modern feel to it. The pictures on the hotels website were exactly what the room looked like. The rooms were well equipped with a TV, DVD player, fridge, free safe access, 2 large drawers, wardrobe hanging space, a bookcase, an ironing board and iron, and a powerful hairdryer. There was plenty of space for us to store everything. The room was immaculate and the maids came in every day and changed the beds and left clean white fluffy towels. A white luxurious bath robe was also provided for use. Beds were comfortable and two pillows were supplied, which allowed for a comfortable nights sleep. The rooms have air conditioning/heater, which can be a little noisy.

The bathroom is small, and yes space to put your things on is limited, with only one small glass shelf for all your toiletries, but it is ample for what you need. The shower was lovely, immediately hot and powerful and I did not want to get out! The Aveda products were a nice touch and smelt lovely. The bathroom overall, was immaculately clean and well lit, with a massive mirror - perfect, except it was a little on the small side maybe.

Our room had no view, our window faced a brick wall. The only drawback with this, was that we had to go have a look in the window down the corridor to determine what the weather was like. No problem for us, but if you want a room with a view, then this isn't the hotel for you.

Breakfast consisted of bagels, muffins and pastries. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and orange juice were also availiable. Bagels could have done with some stratwberry jam, but thats only a personal preference! The breakfast was enough to keep us going throughout most of the day, but we did have breakfast else where on the 4th day, for a bit of variety.

Some people have commented on the noisy lift bell, which is true. The "ding" of the lift bell can be heard when you are in the room, which didn't bother me as a heavy sleeper, but did bother my boyfriend who can hear a pin drop! People in the corridor walking past your door could also be heard - but no noise could be heard from the theatre next door.

I would definately stay here again. The staff were very helpful and friendly and above all the location of this hotel was excellent. The rooms and bed were comfortable and the whole hotel was always immaculately clean. It was excellent value for money and the hotel was recommended on the BBC's Holiday Programme on Thursday night!

Hiya! I've just come back too and I had an amazing time. I stayed at the Milford Plaza which is a couple of mintues from the centre of times square in the theatre district.

The hotel was really nice, the staff were helpful and the room spotless and suprisingly large (great massive bath!). It cost me about £70 for three nights because my friend has staff discount. If you book it through certain websites you can get amazing deals - the cheapest I have seen it is £44 a night.

A few weeks ago I also saw the Waldork Astoria advertised for £66 a night. Try typing in cheap NY hotels in google and you get a website which gives you a list.

Don't get too hung up on your hotel tho, My room was mainly used as a place to store my shopping bags! Have a great time.

That is a fantastic price that you paid for any hotel room! Can't wait to go back and am already looking at prices for Christmas - in time to do some shopping!

I would agree, use your hotel room as somewhere to drop your bags before heading out to shop some more!!!

I appreciate the suggestions and am following up some of the links as I am taking my 15 year old daughter to NY at the end of May.

We have never been before, and wondered if anyone could give any advice on location - the descriptions of the hotels make them all sound as it they are ideally situated. In reality, where is it best to be? Or does it not matter and I should simply select the hotel on price without worrying about location?

We are going to NY to do some sightseeing but a lot of shopping. I would also like to be somewhere that feels 'safe'.

Got Marriott Marquis £65 using priceline in November '03.

It's opposite the TKTS booth in Times square.

PL is OK in NYC if there are only two to a room as they are usually small.

Personnally I think Times Square is a dump and a tourist rip off.

    Each to his own.

I stayed in the https://www.wolcott.com which is round the corner from the Empire state building and near where broadway and 5th Ave cross. Cheap, friendly and well located.

NY is brilliant and amazing, loved it, best time to go would be around early April as it is their sale time and their sales are so much better than ours! But avoid any European labels/brands as these seem to be much more expensive!

But you can still bag a bargain with PL in NYC.

Quite a few of the subway stations have lifts for wheelchairs users or to avoid the stairs.
