Item packaging damaged in transit, what to do

Sold a new perfume. Perfect condition. Wrapped in bubble wrap & brown paper.
Received the following message today:
I was wiling to bid higher as it said the item was in new condition.
To my great dissapointment, when the perfume arrived today, the perfume box was damaged, the back of the box at the bottom and half way up the box has been crushed inwards, like a perforation, which doesn't make it look like a nice new gift.I am dissapoinbted as I paid a lot for this perfume, almost as much as I would have paid for it if I had gone to a shop and purchased it.
What are my options? If i refund & they post it back, I can't resell as perfect condition. Should I claim against royal mail, although the product is still fine - just packaging damaged? Sold for £33 so quite a lot of money to lose.
Thanks

Sounds like they are just after a partial refund.
Regardless, I would ask for photos of the damage then ask them to return for a full refund, or just ask them to return. Wouldn't be suprised if you didn't hear from them again though.0 -
Offer two solutions,
1) full refund on safe return of item
or
2) partial refund to reflect the damage
Unfortunately the only way to protect an outer box from crushing is to send it inside another box- so it is extremely unlikely that RM would compensate you anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would make the buyer financially whole after receiving back the item and packaging, as it was not their fault the product was damaged.
I guess it should have been packaged within an outer box plus your bubble wrap.
You could try a partial refund it might sweeten the pill.

Would you also refund the postage for them to return the product?
