Rightmove - how out of date is it?

Last night a i spent a couple of hours researching flats only to find out they should have been taken of as they were either offer accepted or already sold!

Is it a waste of time

  • Presumably it depends on how up to date the Estate Agent marketing it is. Some are still on there even when they have an offer accepted if they are a repossession or probate property as they have to show they marketed it to get the best price.

The one we are buying, the offer was accepted in late Sept, but as it is probate and the sellers said they wanted it on there anyway but I gather the EA has marked it as SSTC in his window. In our case I presume they will only mark it as SSTC when we exchange. Which is now looking like early Jan.
  • Some agents leave attractive property on RM to generate calls to themselves so they can try to pass off other less desirable property on to you.

There's a local EA who has properties on for years after they've sold.

You should compile a list of those they can't let you view and then snitch them up to the body they are a member of.
  • The house we just bought was listed as SSTC on RM when the offer was accepted snd would only show up on searches if the "Include SSTC" box was ticked on the search criteria.

When we completed on the 8th I asked the EA when the listing would be removed. They said it usually takes ages to come off, but because I asked for it to be removed, it was gone within 24hrs.
  • Hi, I found my current rented property on RightMove, and know it was also left on there for at least two weeks after I'd moved in...

It takes 24 hours for rightmove to update changes and also depends on the EA -looks good for them if there are lots of properties on advertising there name, but annoying when the properties have already gone!

  • When I was looking to buy a house I was on Rightmove probably every other day. I too noticed that it is flawed in the sense that you don`t know how long a property has been for sale. Also, if you choose to look at properties that have been added in say the last 24 hours, often a house comes up that has been for sale for weeks and weeks. It`s just been added again as a new listing so not actually new to the market

That's why everyone who is looking at houses should install the Property Bee addon for Firefox.

The only reason I use Firefox is for Rightmove and PropertyBee.

It gives you updates on the house. So when it first appeared, any description or price changes etc.

With the caveat that if an EA re-markets a long-standing property as a new listing, all the data on Property Bee is lost; this is becoming increasingly common, perhaps for this reason?

    Jolly useful, though.
