Of course it will be done by a GP or your GP (Chief Constables don't do medicals). But the charges and profit will go to ACPO, with a fee to your GP.

How often does your GP charge you almost £120 (£96 + VAT) for a medical (checking you over)?

Similar for my medical forms for the Army, need to get them counter signed, to which they want £65 for! Luckily the Army pay them and not me!
What is pi? Where did it come from?

Once again, the profit does not go to the ACPO.

Could you produce proof of this?

Go and ask 20 GPs in 20 different surgeries what they charge. You will find they have differing charges. If it was a set thing where the ACPO got the profit, they would have the same fee wouldn't they?

The charge is exactly the same charge as it is for a vocational driving licence medical. Are you seriously saying the ACPO get a cut of every HGV and PSV drivers medicals? On what basis would they be entitled to that? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? It sounds like the rant of one of those anti-establishment nutters who has some kind of beef with the govt.

Go ask your GP. You will find that they have a price list of such services. Oh, and don't forget to put your tin foil hat back on, they can read your brainwaves you know..

Since when have ACPO been involved with medicals to assess fitness to drive?

You are the one claiming ACPO pocket the money. Perhaps you could be so kind as to provide the source of your info?

  • It is good job you don't want an airline pilot's medical - a GP I know charges £600 for one.
  • I think people forget that GPs charge for pretty much everything that isn't medical treatment now.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies

It was my first ever ban (and my last I might add), so not a repeat offender
Nope I reapplied for my license back as soon as I could, May 2009 I got it back the day the ban was lifted, I gave a breath test for the reading, no blood or urine was ever taken. They said due to a mix up on computers it was missed, hence it droping on my doormat 2 1/2 year later

The letter threatened me either take the medical at my expense, or lose my license, which I clearly dont want to do, just angered me at the wording as though I'd made the mistake on the computer?

They had a section about this on Radio 4 today. Apparently the DVLA/Police/Courts have cocked up and lost the BAC readings on about 250,000 offenders. Of these, 50,000 records have now been recovered and of those 50,000 4,000 people were considered to be high risk and needing a medical.

The DVLA are now in the process of writing to those 4,000 people and making them do their medicals. Guess you're one of the ones caught up in this. Unlucky.
  • This is on radio today 15 minutes in about DVLA or courts failing to notify drivers at risk to go for a medical
