Sorry
the reason why is because I have applied to do a university course which involves working with children.
I have been wanting to do this for a long time and just worried that this may come back and bite me on the bum !!0 -
If the OP went to court he certainly was! And even a caution should show on an eCRB. But the OP knows the risk now - if s/he continues to lie about it and gets caught out by the record being fixed, then there is nobody else to blame.
you'd have thought that but if it's not showing after 6 then it can't be a mistake every time. According to a quick Google search / consumer action group, an eCRB should show everything to arrests with NFA to going to prison, but mine is clean as well.0 -
Thats what I thought if it was my first crb then I would be worried but I have had 5 crbs enhanced ones as well . And I have been working in a hospital since 2003.
Strange !!
Thanks0 -
Is there not a way you can find out under the Data Protection Act what information the police force who dealt with you / the courst system has on you, in order to sort this out one way or the other? I mean, if you decide to be honest and tell the truth, you do not want to tell prospective employers you do have a conviction if you don't - as that would also be lying!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0

Thanks

If you are honest you will be given the chance to explain. There is a good chance you will be allowed to continue with the course.
If you lie and it comes to light in the future you will be shown to be a liar, so in effect no different to what you were all those years ago. Who would want to give you a chance after that?0 -
Hi
What comes to light over 20 years down the line !! Going to take the chance and get information from data protection first.
Thanks for all your advice

What if you bump into someone that knew you back then, or someone Googles you in your old local newspaper? It's amazing what comes to light many years down the line.
You don't seem to understand that what you are doing is wrong. It concerns me that you intend to be so dishonest yet you think you have changed.0 -

Sorry - I wasn't being clear perhaps. The error is not in the eCRB - it is in the informarion held on the police computer! Remember - and with your background you will instantly understand - that the PNC is a recent invention, and many of the records were until very recently held on local force computers and paper records. The migration of that enormous amount of data is a logistical nightmare, data errors occur and are not caught, human error comes in and isn't noticed... The simple fact is that there are erors in the record - people who have never been convicted of anything have convictions against them, and people who have don't. It is uncommon, but it does happen, and it only comes to light when someone notices - since eCRB's are still only required for a small number of employees, the chances of such instances coming to light are rare, but it does happen, as in this case. And of course people who have "lost" theor convictions tend not to own up.
The thing is that errors in the record can be found out. I know of one instance where a conviction has been wrongly placed against someone of the same name. When that person applied for an eCRB, in the ensuing fall out from the error the mistake was identified and the data corrected. So someone else who may have appeared to have had a perviously clean record but shouldn't have, suddenly didn't.0
