I felt the same. I've been off for a long time, and logged in again today.
My debts are small compared to a lot of people, and I thought that people may think I was making mountains out of molehills. But there is no point where your debts become 'big enough' to join this site and it seems to really good supporting people who are saving, or at least trying to!

Is it possible that a friend or your Dad could be with you at your home when the bailiff visits? Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

What an excellent idea BR:T
A friend even, to give her support. It feels as though we are still in the middle ages when people are allowed to bully others in their own homes. Then again, I suppose only a fairly hardened person would ever want to be a debt collector since I doubt it would be a job for the faint hearted:eek:LBM August 2011. I just thought that the bailiff might back off a little if there was someone else there - esp it was a male friend/relative perhaps?Standingtall wrote: »It feels as though we are still in the middle ages when people are allowed to bully others in their own homes. Some good advice here but some important questions:
What is the debt he is collecting? Who do you owe it to? What makes up that £450? How do you know the debt will be settled even if you do pay it? Has he shown you any paperwork to show what this debt is?
In my experience of these things a debt agency will easily turn a £100 debt into £450. And they will often accept a far lower settlement. Personally I wouldn't pay him a penny and would try to sort it out with the debt collection agency or the original creditor.0 -
have nay of your creditors taken you to court? if this "debt collector" isnt a bailiff then they have about as much power as my postman to demand money..
The postman can hold your letter to ransom until you hand over vast sums of money if the original poster forgot ot put a stamp on it.0 -
Hi he was a bailiff no a debt collector. He was court ordered to collect money. I owed that money on council tax.
Sorry for the late replies this is the first chan ce I have gotten to get on here. Well he came and picked up the money. He also apologised for being rude on the phone. He has now set up a payment plan for me that is affordable thankfully. He actually helped me work out the smallest amount I could get away with paying. I feel alot better ow that I have sorted out a payment plan with Penham Excel. I'm also booked into the CAB for help with my budget and they are working out a plan so I will be debt free in a year. Thank you so much to everyone for your wonderful support and advice this week.I want to be debt free by Dec 2012Money towards a start up business £0Target £4k0
