Hi all I'm new to this forum. I have just had a debt collector come to pick up my stuff. He has given me till monday to pay £450. I have managed to borrow £300 from a friend. Would that be acceptable?? It's my own fault I'm in this state. Only just found out I'm suffering from depression and start treatment soon.
I have this much coming in every month £1450
Here are my bills
rent - £625
council tax - £101
water - £45
gas - £67
electricity - £58
TV, phone and internet - £70
mobile - £45
vodafone - £33 only till apr then will be cancelled
loan - £96 only 20wks left on that
school bills - £80
These are my debts
water - £800
council tax - £449.95 and then this year £813
catalouge - £200
I know this is not much comapared to what most people have but to me this is quite frightening. I'm dealing with Penham Excel and the bailiff is awful. I have explained my financial situation to him but he says that I have messed him. I would like to point out I waited in a whole day for him and he never showed up then he turned up while I was at work without informing me so I got charged for that. Should he accept that I can only get £300. I have books I can sell to a book shop but that will only raise about £50 as they only pay 20p a paperback. I need any advice anyone can give me.
Thank you

I'd say you're definitely paying too much for gas and electric - Can you fill in a proper SOA (http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html) to help clarify your income and outgoings?

Yeah it is a bailiff from my old address. Me and my 2 children have just moved to a new house owing to a slum landlord evicting us so he could move some of his family in. I made the fatal error of letting him in at our old address but I haven't let him in at this address. He's coming back tomorrow to get his £450. I have managed to £400 of it now thanks to my dad. It was awful telling him what had happened but he understood and said he had a little bit of money to help me. As for my gas and electricity I'm paying off an old debt thats why it is so high. I have almost paid that off though so I have been told it will go down by alot. So by feb my gas and electricity will £75 for them both together. I know it's gonna be a long slog with these debts but I'm so upset with this bailiff. He's vile. I have been nothing but nice to him and he has just been plain awful. I mean I have £400 for him now thats £50 less than what he was asking for. But surely it's better than getting nothing.I want to be debt free by Dec 2012Money towards a start up business £0Target £4k0

Hi sorry Im grasping at strwars a bit for you but how close are you to your employer, would they consider an official sub for £50. I work in our payroll department and we often give out subs when people need them. This would then give you a bit more thinking time.If you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.

I wish our company would help like that but they don't. I have just text a friend and she has said she will help me out. I really don't know what I would do without my bestmate. Once I have paid this money in tomorrow then I can enter a new payment plan. I know I will have to let him in tomorrow to set up the new payment plan. Just wish I could deal with someone else instead of this guy.I want to be debt free by Dec 2012Money towards a start up business £0Target £4k0

Hi there.
So sorry to hear about this bailiff man.
Once you get tomorrow done and out the way, I suggest you start a debt free wannabe diary. I know a lot of people have found it useful, not only for the chance to organise your debts but also for the support that other people in similar situations can give you.
