BEWARE: PC World Price Match Sham

Just bought an over-priced ink cartridge from PC World. I knew it was over-priced as I'd done a price search in-store but figured their price match would sort it out.
I rang the number their website where they are "on hand" to receive your call.
The first chap was very accommodating and attempted to put me through to the Stevenage store to arrange the refund. Regrettably he put me through to a person completely unconnected with PC World although familiar with their "fat fingers" as he'd fielded a few calls previously.
My price match was against Comet, rang back & second chap said, "as you know Comet are in administration and we are no longer price matching them." I told him their website states it IS price matching them. All he could do was repeat himself several times that they are not and referred me to the Terms & Conditions on the website.
I immediately searched these T&C's and it made no reference to the price match promise. I told him this and asked him where it referred to the price match, he said they were very long and didn't know.
So, just so you all know, despite it saying it price matches Comet on it's website, it doesn't. Furthermore, despite it asking you to ring them to get your price match, you still have to go back to the store you made the purchase within 7 days. Not 7 days and 1 minute, just 7 days.
So here's to you, John Silverton, new star of my customer service courses and reason I shall never set foot in a DSG store again. Judging by some of the comments about DSG, I should really have known better.

I haven't set foot in Currys/pcworld for years over priced, poor service, many of the staff no little about the products. I do my own research and buy else where0

Obviously they need to look at there web site

We'll beat: comet.co.uk, johnlewis.co.uk, argos.co.uk, staples.co.uk, tesco.com
If you ever find a product cheaper, we're on hand simply call 0844 5610 -
Oops. Never knew about the vent forum.
Anyway, went to store assuming that the staff on site would be clueless about Comet not being price matched anymore. I wasn't disappointed although I had to remind them about the extra 10%.
So I guess I got what I wanted/what they say on their website but I'll never be going in there again. Obviously they have never gone through the new vs existing customer costing method or lifetime value of a customer.0 -
Suggest you write and complain, requesting payment for your extra petrol to get back to the store, and your cost of postage for writing. It's petty, but unless people kick up a fuss stores like this will keep getting away with it.
The offer on the website is part of the terms of your contract. They have broken those terms, leaving you financially out of pocket. MOreover, they've been a pain in the backside to you, get them back!0 -
I get criticised for being "OTT" when companies try to screw me over, but personally, I'd send a letter by recorded delivery to their complaints address with an invoice for the price difference, the postage cost, and (if you were told to return to the shop) the estimated travel costs. Then let them know that if they do not pay within a specified time you'll make a small claim against them in the county court.
Obviously legal action would be time consuming and probably not worth the (small) expense, but in my experience if you can demonstrate that you understand the law and are not prepared to let the matter drop then they seem to realise that you won't be fobbed off and comply with you rather quickly...0 -
I think the OP has actually got the price match now, after a trip to store - see their second post on this thread.0

Did you buy the cartridge in store or online?
The link posted from the website refers to products bought from the website - in store they will not match any website, just other stores. You ring the 0844 number because for purchases made online that's the only way to get your refund. The website doesn't tell you to ring 0844 for in store price promise.
However, they will still price match Comet, so whoever told you otherwise was in the wrong. If you bought in store, you need to go in store to get your refund. Had you told the colleague that Comet were cheaper when you originally bought the cartridge they would have discounted it there and then, with no need to go back.0
