I've recieved similar service from a ARC carwash before, paid £2.50 for their basic + dry all was fine but half hour later the car developed a horrid mis-fire so I took it to a garage and the car wash had a pipe leak underneeth which blasted water all inside my engine bay and flooded 2 of the cylinders cost £120 to fix.

They of course didn't want to know anything about it.

From now on I use Tesco's self-car wash where you pay around £4 for 12 minutes and use the jetwash and scrubbing brush yourself

I'd consider small claims court, just the threat of it might be enough. Get someone to give you a quote for a paint job, along with the reasons it could have happened (maybe the body shop has seen tat kind of damage before) and then send this bill and give them 14 days to pay.

If you succeed at court you will get your court costs back anyway.

yup, I'd small claims them too. I'm guessing you have logs of phone calls etc as it's been going on so long? I very much doubt you'd have any trouble being successful in your claim.

    - I had decided the car needed a wash while I filled it with petrol and therefore had seen the condition just before I bought the topwash.
Very very long shot, but is there a possibility the CCTV at the petrol station would have caught the side of the car that was damaged in the car wash? That would seem to be irrefutable proof of the timing/sequence of events. Of course, you may a)struggle to ge tthem to share the images or indeed they b) may no longer have the footage after all this time. Just a thought though.

Even if the footage did exist, it'd likely be much too low quality to prove that scratches did or did not exist
