Help! How to remove KA Oil cap

Hi,

Please can anyone tell me if they have removed the oil cap from a Ford KA themselves? I want to top up my engine oil in my KA but for the life of me cannot remove the cap!!!!!

This may sound such a girlie issue :o , but trust me I have had my neighbours try, my boyfriend try, my male friends from work try but all to no avail!!! They are all as stumped as me as to how the cap is removed. I have no manual either to refer to.

I really don't want to have to take it to a garage to ask them to do it as they will probably charge me. Please help!!!!!

  • Thanks for the link.

However, this is not the right manual for my particular make. My KA is an early 99 reg car. The oil cap in my car cannot be a screw off cap, as it does not have any finger 'indent' areas. It is a very thin 'lid', shaped much like a U. it seems that it should pop off, but no matter how much leaverage you put in it does not come off. Can anyone else help?
  • Try posting on a specialist motoring website, may i advise www.honestjohn.co.uk they really like their fords there! So i presume they will be plenty of people on who will give you the answer

From the left hand side, go to the back room, them technical matters, then post your query.

    good luck!

  • Hi Bells - my wife has an old Ka and it took me ages to realise that the black box with the oil can picture on it just twists off and once off you just pour the oil in.

Guess you've got it off by now, but ANY garage would do it for you & I'd be surprised if they were cheeky enough to charge!!

What you do need to do though & it DOES need care & gentle, but firm effort, is to remove your spark plugs & smearing some copper grease, lightly, on the threads. This is assuming they've been in a long while, as they will seize up & snap off, when it comes around to service time.

It'd certainly be worth letting someone with a bit of motor DIY knoledge, do this for you - save a nasty bill, in the future!!
