Do I need a license?

Hi, I am going to be baking and "selling" cakes for a charity in January. As these will be baked in my house and then sold at a public event do I need a food and hygine certificate or anything? Its a one off event and I dont really think getting said licence should I need it is worth it? What do you think?

This is always difficult. If you hadn't asked, like hundreds of thousands of people who bake a few cakes for church /school/insert any other charity fete/ fair here etc.as a one off.
But you did - and you are selling to the general public, who have rights...so technically, to sell your produce, regardless of it being charitable /donated, you could/would technically need a basic food hygiene cert, (fast and cheap - as low as £10 with some online companies) and also to be verified by your local Environmental health officer after he visits and inspects and deems your premises suitable as a place where food is prepared which often involves ALOT of hoops and you jumping like joey - As well as having the correct storage and transport facilities, refridgerated vans, temperature and hazard control records, cleaning records, daily fridge and freezer temperature records, and not least proper ingredients labelling, in descending order, together with proper packaging and calorific values, as well as best before dates, yes this really is what the world has come to...
Perhaps better to not have asked
