Easyjet Flight Transfer Costs

I managed to book tickets for my family on the wrong weekend - don't know how I did it do this stuff all the time and never done it wrong before. My Father-in-law is gravely ill and all I can think of was that I was really distracted.
The flights were to visit my parents-in-law and the tickets we've booked are probably gonna be too late. I spoke to customer service who said that if I'd rung within 12 hours they "could" have done something to help but now it had been automated! Did try to call within 12 hours but waiting was ages so left it to later, not knowing they tehnicality of their system. To change the tickets for 3 from one weekend to another was in excess of £140 which has got to be indefensible, if you can claim back bank charges surely that should apply here that the transfer has to be relative to the cost to the organisation? So it wasn't worth transferring.
They said all I could do was write to customer service which I did (email). They didn't even give me the honour of reading my email and send back a std email quoting their terms.
Does anyone know any legislation or loop holes on this. We're now going to drive, but that means less time with our relatives if we take in driving time, but I am fuming that I've more or less just thrown circa £200 away! Have got family travel insurance but don't think that covers mistakes?
Any help will be gratefully received - I'm at a loss.

Unfortunately, the charges are very clear in their terms and conditions and are entirely legal.
I'm afraid it's one to chalk up to experience. What goes around - comes around0 -
May be cheaper just to buy new tickets0

Cant understand why you didnt stay on the phone..0

There is an administration fee to cover their costs, and you have to pay any difference in the cost of the flight - To stop people booking a cheap flight then trying to switch to a more expensive one. It seems harsh, but they keep fares low by offering what appears to be poor support, very much a 'self-service' process. Very unfortunate bearing in mind the circumstances, but I'm afraid that this is correct.0

Julie. the flight transfer fee is £17.50 pp EW so thats £35 per rtn flight, so the "TRANSFER FEE" was in fact £105, the rest was the difference in fares as the following weekend was obviously more expensive.
