To be honest, now that the government have forced everyone to have a bank account whether they like it or not there are a lot of people who are unable to get 'current accounts'. Every other bank I have looked at have the decency to call them basic accounts, it seems to be only the Halifax who lump people with bad credit records in with the children!!

I don't necessarily disagree with you Markymark but having been landed with an appalling credit record through no fault of my own, just my fault that I married a person who wouldn't pay his share of the debts, I have been landed with one of these Cardcash accounts and have held it without problems for 5 years. They still won't upgrade my account.

As soon as I can I will be transferring to the Natwest where I can open a basic account and still get a Solo card, and after 6 months they will review my usage of the account and possibly upgrade it.

To be honest, after being a Halifax customer for nearly 20 years in total I think their whole attitude stinks.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

again depends on the type of acocunt.

normal abbey current a/c 3 working days
    savings 4 working days

if basic acc however (in theory our equivalent of the one mentioned in the OP) then 6 working days - as above.

if you have an account designed for those of "lesser creditworthiness" it will take longer

(fact of life - incidentally i dont agree with it either but thats how it goes
    :o )
