Trying to find insurer that will accept car company no claims

Hi

I have been a company car driver for the past 20 years and so never needed to have a personal car insurance. I can prove no claims on company cars for the past 14 years.

In January 2010 I became self employed and so my car company car insurance stopped. I have been a named car driver since, since we have only needed one car in the family.

I am now buying a car and the quotes are high: £1000 plus.

The issue is having not driven a company car in the last twelve months my 14 years of no claims becomes void. This I find very frustrating.

Does anyone know an car insurers/underwriters that will insure on the basis of company car no claims but not disregard it due to the 12 months lapse.

Any help gratefully received.

Chris.

Sorry, don't know the specific answer you need but esure accepted my company evidence when I opted out the company car scheme. This was an immediate change rather than a 12 month lapse like you have.

Probably best to try the insurer of your other car as they have some knowledge of your driving record.

traditional broker will sort you out or use the comparison sites with 14 years NCB and then phone the cheap ones to see if they will play ball

You don't have 14 years "no claims discount".

What you have is 14 (maybe 14 +) years driving experience without making a claim.

So as advised, although you won't find any company allowing any no claims discount online, see if a local broker (not swinton) can get you an introductory discount to reflect your driving experience.

But you have to start from scratch building up your own "no claim discount".

or maybe not, when I went from one car to two cars a few years ago I got the insurance company to give me an introductory discount equivalent to my ncb but at the end of the year I got two renewals each with max NCB.

Not exactly the same but similar enough that hopefully the same will happen to the OP
  • Many thanks to you all for replying. I have since posting been successful in finding an insurer that will accept my proven accident free history of 14 years despite the time that has lapsed since having a company car insurance. Six of the major insurers contacted would allow only a max of 12 months lapse however, Admiral is two years.

    cheers, Chris16.

Are you sure they are talking about your "history", and you haven't inadvertently lead them to believe you have 14 years "no claims discount"?

Normally Admiral accept "old" NCD, up to 2 years old!

Hi, I explained the following: I have been driving company cars for 20 years and have had no claims since 1991. I have letters from the various companies going back to 1997 confirming there have been no claims or no accidents. Too, I have added that I last drove a company car at the beginning of 2010 but since then have only been a named driver on our family car. That's the information I gave.

    cheers.
  • You don't say how old you are . . .

SAGA for the over 50's accepted a letter from my company insurers which gave details of my driving record when I opted out of the company car scheme and got my own car. I was able to get a full NCB with them.

    Hope this helps.
