HDMI cable?

Hello

I wonder if you might be able to assist at all?

I have recently updated my laptop and now have a hdmi port, so I thought I would take the opportunity to connect it to the tv some of the time to show home movies / clips I have made on my flip and transferred to the laptop.

Therefore, is hdmi the best way of doing this, if yes, any recommendations on what cable to get (and from where - are there any deals on currently)?

Thanks

Unless your running huge lengths of cable then as above cheapest.

HDMI is best as it carries the sound and video with one cable.

  • One thing to ponder on is that you may need to adjust the settings with the HDMI port with the computer (Very easy as on my acer laptop i used to have had a HDMi port and you could press i think fn key with f2 or f8

Just throught i mention that as i used to stream movies and seeing the laptop screen and my Very big tv showing the same stuff at the same time was rather annoying when connected to HDMI

I recently got a perfectly adequate one from eBay (1.5m) for £1.49 delivered - bargain!

Not strictly true - cables are updated to comply with revisions of the HDMI spec (1.3, 1.4 etc). Also, there are two different connectors - standard HDMI and mini HDMI. Some laptops and netbooks use the mini connector where most TVs use the standard one so the OP needs to check whether they need a standard cable or a standard to mini.

But I agree that there's no point in paying over the odds. Any reasonable quality cable will suffice.

I wouldn't bother with expensive [gold plated etc.] cables either but I have found the really cheap ones often have flimsy connectors that may be an issue with using it on something like a laptop where it'll be continually plugged and unplugged

My advice would be less than a tenner but a bit more than 99p

I have an Android tablet, a MILC camara and a video camera, all of which use them.

  • Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.
  • Given it is a recent update the HDMI should carry both sound and image (which HDMI is capable of doing) but may be worth check as some laptops HDMI sockets only pass image and you then have to use a separate connection to do the sound which can be a pain and may be a limitation as your TV would need to be able to accept image by one HDMI and sound by a second connection at the same time.
