Or maybe there should be more punishments for councils when they quite happily get things wrong.
yes councils do get things wrong, often. As inconvenient as it can be, it doesn't usually end up with baliffs knocking on your door . I don't think ops case can be blamed on the council.
As already said, before getting to this stage would involve lots of letters & reminders, court summons ect
But thats not really relevant as op doesn't seem to be here to blame others or find loopholes, but to ask advice about what other options might be available to explore other than seizure of goods.0 -
there is no CCJ for council tax its a liability order issued in the magistrate court and it is not registered on your credit file.I am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites
If you are in any doubt please seek legal/expert advice help0 -

Councils and baliffs are quite happy to mess people around and profit from it so it's something that should be expected. But thats not really relevant as op doesn't seem to be here to blame others or find loopholes, but to ask advice about what other options might be available to explore other than seizure of goods.
Shouldn't your complaint be aimed at the person I was responding to.0 -
yes its our fault, my wife and i had stuck our head in the sand...
on a lighter note, contacting the council has helped. they are prepared to take £25 a week until after christmas and have suspended the walking possesion order with the bailiff.
after christmas i will then make efforts to clear it off as soon as i can.
thanks

see contacting the council is not a bad thing, you should of done it sooner and saved all this hassle with bailiffs, bear in mind the council have only suspended the walking possesion order with the bailiff, default on any arrangement with the coucil and this will be reactivated0 -
best of luck to you - hope you will be able to enjoy Christmas without the worry of having your property imminently sold off.0
