Attaching xmas lights to flat porch roof

I don't have ladders that will reach to the roof of our home..
Instead I'm just going to put some around the little porch roof type thing in front of our front door.
It's an old semi detached house, with a little roof type thing sticking out a foot in front of the front door... the roof is flat and is covered with felt...
How do it attach lights to it? Ther eis no guttering and I'm a bit dubious about tapping cable clips into it as it may compromise the waterproofing of the felt...

Does it have some form of facia you could attach the lights to with (say) gaffer tape? Agree that you should leave the felt out of the equasion unless you simply drape over and secure down at gound level.0

You are quite right not tapping clips into it. you could use a dollop of bitumen compatible mastic such as Arbosil and push the cable into that. You could weigh it down with a brick or 5-this is the easiest and cheapest!0 -
I have lights around my porch the facia is upvc I use plastic suckers that you lightly wet and it sticks to upvc and glass not wood or other materials
On difficult areas I use cable tie bases and plastic tiers. You can get them on ebay for a few quid for 100 they stick to most materials and you pull off sometime you have to remove the sticky pad with a scrapper but very lightly

just lay the wires on the flat roof and weigh em down with some big ish stones etc...
bricks maybe a tad too large.Get some gorm.0 -
How about just not bothering. As a subscriber to the "Bah Humbug" school of Christmas, that's what I would do.
Otherwise just use weights, as has been suggested already.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
thanks everyone... I like the idea of those cable tie sticker things, pricey though....
until then I might gaffer tape them to the felt... cheers0 -

If it is mineral faced felt I wouldnt reccommend that. The chippings protect the felt from UV and you will be drastically decreasing the life of your roof when you pull the gaffer tape (and mineral chippings) off. Stones would be better.:money:0 -

Thanks... I was going to attach them to the wooden front fascia instead of the felt, but if that fails I'll use the stones. I'll definitely remember to not stick to or drill into the felt0
