  • I dont know, you will need to ask a direct question to your employer, how long will I be at this site? Assuming that is what you are trying to find out, if not then its beyond me.

    I think you're misreading this. You're taking 'defined period' to mean that your company give you a start and end date.

    I personally would take it to mean 'a period of time' - ie, it won't be forever. The 'definition' of it could be 'until the work is completed' or 'until the customer no longer needs you'. Ie, 'defined' simply means 'not forever', rather than set dates.

    JMO, though. :)

    Poor wording from HR, indefinite would have been a better descriptor.

    Also interesting that HR have focused on a mileage claim that isn't referred to - why would they do this, is mileage about to become a bone of contention for some reason?

    The millage issue is another issue I am already discussing with them. That one has been going for a while and I have formal grievance with them. Thats a much longer story.

    I was only interested in what counted as 'defined period' as in does it have to be a stated amount of time or can it be left open ended.

    The basic history is that I was told I would be a mobile engineer before my transfer now everything is up in the air about it.
