Netbook won't switch on at all, help please.

Hello all, I have an MSI Wind U135 Netbook (XP) and have had it for 10 months.

The problem is it won't switch on at all. When you press the power button nothing happens, no lights flash no whirring of fans or the hard drive, nothing.

I have put a multi meter on the Power transformer and have got 19volts (which is what the transformer is rated as).

Any suggestions?

Have you tried taking the battery out and just using mains power?
Might be useful to remove the battery and the mains and hold the power button down for 30 seconds or so to discharge all the circuits first.

Yes have tried that, the battery is currently removed from the netbook (since last night)

So the transformer is giving the correct power all the way to the DC-in jack plug?

Yes there is 19volts at the plug that goes into the netbook.

Though I notice that the transformer is not getting warm.

If it's not doing any 'work' and just running light then transformers take very little current so will not get warm. As you say the battery is removed so its not being charged and the unit is off then this will indeed be the case.

Faulty on/off switch maybe?
Total failure of motherboard?

My son had a similar problem with his sony laptop, we looked inside the connection point where the adaptor plugs into the machine and the were three pins, one had broken, so we opened up the other two to provide a connection to the adaptor and hey presto contact made, no problems since.

I was going to suggest a broken/loose socket to start with depending on make/model.
It could also be, as CGC stated, a broken/duff on/off switch.

As you're not getting any lights at all with the power plugged in, I'd start with the socket.
If you put the battery in and connect the mains, do you get a charging light?

I don't suppose you know anyone else with the same netbook do you?
It would be ideal to swap the battery for a known charged one to narrow it down a bit

There seems to be a good few similar PSUs used on netbooks, so maybe borrow one off something else? the Sammy NC10 series should work for one
