Canon IXUS 850IS - cheapest place to buy?

Hi all,

I have decided the Canon IXUS 850IS digital camera is the one I want. Having searched high and low, seems buying from Amazon is the best deal at £244 inc postage.

If I go via the Nectar site, I will get 500 points too (worth £2.50 in shopping at Sainsburys).

I have not seen any other worthwhile suppliers via cashback sites like Quidco for example that would make the price any cheaper.

I have an Egg Money card so would also use that for additional cashback (£2.40).

Anyone got any other suggestions as to how I can get this item at the very cheapest, withour compromising on delivery/quality of service etc.

Any other ideas etc most gratefully received! :T

    *bump* - any ideas/recommendations?

I would also consider the Canon IXUS 65 if anyone thinks this is as good as the IXUS 850?

I would print out the Amazon price and go into a store and try and get a pricematch. If anything goes wrong, just take it back there.

I just got the canon Ixus 800IS used of amazon for £124. Well worth checking out the amazon used stuff as an alternative to ebay.

    The cameras great.

Thanks guys - really useful info and will prob (finally) decide which one I want over the next week or so. Mr EL is also looking for a new Panasonic camcorder (on a separate thread) so we will scour the net trying to find best deals!

My only confusion is whether to go for IXUS 750, 800 or 850, I am pretty sure I want the IXUS range...

I bought the 850 IS just before Christmas from Amazon for £267. When they reduced the price a week later to £244 they gave me a refund of the difference. I found delivery and their customer service very good, especially given that it was Christmas time. Jessops woouldn't price match it for me.
The camera itself is excellent and if you can afford it, I would go for it over the earlier Ixus models. The image stabiliser (IS) is excellent and the images are top quality. I took it snowboarding in early January and it coped well in bright sunlight with a white landscape, where other other compacts might over expose. I've had two digital cameras before, but they are no where near the quality of the ixus 850IS. You wont be disappointed.
  • Thanks Gorilla - great to hear from an 850IS user and I think you have made my mind up for me - Amazon seem to be the best price at £244, plus I will go via Nectar to pick up a few points, and use my Egg Money 1% cashback card...

  • The 850 has some great reviews so go for that, the 65 is good but a different camera as it doesn't have image stabilisation. I'm buying a 800 today from UK digital £197. If you want the 850 takr a look at Pixmania, there is acode published in there advert in 'Digital Camera Shopper' which I think cahnges each month and givers you £6 off. Also they pay up on Quidco.
