Getting a car tax refund question.
Just a quick question as the applications says 'You must not make a SORN if you have sold ,transferred, scrapped this vehicle.
Now, I have a old car with 5 months tax. I was going to scrap it but its a bit too good so ive 'given' it to a garage in return for work on my other car. however I do not want to give the tax away as I want to reclaim it. The garage is just going to repair it and resell but this will be not done for a few weeks/months and they are not bothered about the tax.
So am I allowed to reclaim the tax as i am really selling the car.

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

Yes, you can reclaim the tax for any full months remaining.
Send of a V14 form... see DirectGov...

Get the V14 from the post office, Drop it off at the garage and get them to fill in the V5. Take the tax disc out of the car, Sorn it online when you get home, and send off the form with the tax disc to the DVLA.
Do this before the end of the month as they will only refund you each full month in road tax. You should be sending off the V5 as well - so just do this when you get your refund. It will have a date and signature on it so if they do anything wrong it cannot come back to you.0 -
you dont have to sorn the car because you dont own it anymore, just send send the v5 off with the new keepers details and send the tax back for a refund. Its up to the garage to sorn it as its their responsibility now.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
