Npower DD Scam

Am fed up to the back teeth with Npower ripping off my Mum tried to double DD payment eventhou over £200 in credit. I managed to get DD payment down to £54 which comes to £654 per year eventhou Mum only uses £450 per year. I shall be expecting a cheque from them for Mum and interest and a reduced DD the robbing *********. How many more pensioners do they do this too. It's evil. Please if you have any pensioners in family or know any pensioners please check there bill for them and stop this Npower SCAM NOW !

So how do they actually justify the extra £200 or so you say they are taking even after you complained?

Personally I'd say just find her a more reasonable supplier but I appreciate older people often dislike change even when it's for the better :(

Submit meter readings regularly. Better still, stop using direct debit. Even if they are honest, it only takes a computer error to empty your bank account and put you in serious trouble. And that's before you have all the hassle of trying to get the money back.

I recently submitted an online meter reading. The supplier actually phoned me because it seemed 'too high'. It was - their online thingy had moved the decimal point, increasing my reading by a factor of 10. Now, if someone at their end hadn't been on the ball, and had I had a direct debit ...

£200 in credit sounds about right for this time of year, over the summer months you build this up as it covers other charges over winter. You wont get intrest, all suppliers do it. Best thing todo is give regular reads.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Any reason you haven't mentioned what the original DD amount was? And is "£450 per year" pre or post tariff increase? Much better to fight this using agreed annual consumption in kWhrs.

Whether or not you describe a "scam" going beyond "sudden excessive hike" resulting from an "interim review" somewhat depends on the answers.

I'm with npower and they tell me that if I get to £60 in credit, they'll refund it. I submit readings every month and keep track of my bills so as soon as I get to that £60 I'll be reminding them.

You most certainly have to keep a close eye on npower as I found out last month when my 6 monthly end of period bill was emailed to me.
We have always paid 60.00 per month per fuel (120.00 pm)
we ended the year period with just short of 300.00 in credit , which has been returned to our current account and they still wanted to increase our monthly DD and could not understand when I stated it was not going to happen as we clearly cover our usage with current payments.

Keep a beady eye on npower....

  • My Mum is a low user her orignal direct debit was £33 a month. £450 a year is about right for a two bedroomed massionette if your not wasteful,. I pay about the same myself.. Now if Mum is £200 in credit and they are taking £54 a month and her usage is £450 a year by the end of yhe twelve months Npower will be sitting on getting on for £400 of Mums money which would pay for a nice little holiday for my Mum. No offer of credit refund as been offered. I think it is just a scam to earn interest off other peoples money. What also annoys me Mum is paying interest on a loan and this credit could also pay that off for her.
