Period License held for...

Hi, please could someone help me...

Period License held for -

My boyfriend says I can put the date that I've held my provisional license - as it states 'License' not 'Full License'.

I'm worried that if I put that on the form, if something happened, my insurance would be cancelled...

    Most usually ask:-

What type of licence do you have?
How long have you held your licence?

That would suggest its asking how long have you held a full licence to me.

I would put down what you think it means.

The reason why my reply isn't particulary helpful is if it goes wrong you have to defend yourself and explain why you, not your boyfriend, thought it meant that.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Your boyfriend is talking out of his rear. If you are still in doubt then call the insurer and ask them what they require here.
  • There are some insurer that do ask "how long have you held A license for?" in which case you would have a strong argument that any license would count. In most insurers cases however the wording is such to imply your current license and so prior types of licenses dont count.

I wouldnt do this, this excuse would not stop them voiding any claims you make due to incorrect information. It will be years held full license, as this is a rating factor (how they calculate your risk of making a claim). Incorrect info could void your policy. So they would not pay out following a claim and you would have to tell future insurers that a previous insurer cancelled your policy.

It doesn't always work out like this.

    Example.

I have had my Provisional since Oct 2006 or something. I passed May 2007.

I have had insurance from Oct 2006.

When it came to Oct 2007. I could not put 1 years no claim with licence from May 2007.

So in my case I would have to lie about one or the others. I was told to use Oct 2006 as having my licence.

You couldnt do this if you had say been a named driver on someone elses insurance normally most insurers would not count this as ncd. OP should still clarify with insurer

Not quite sure how this relates? No-one has said they were a named driver rather than main driver.

And the number of years NCD has nothing to do with the licence type

I was just saying that this is the case. I used to work for an insurer and a heck of a lot of people thought that being a named driver whilst learning to drive meant they had no claims discount.
