Ford Fiesta engine management light on

The engine warning/management light has come on in my 04 plate Fiesta, and I was wondering how I would be able to find out an indication of the problem is before I take it to the garage?

The car seems to drive fine, but I did have an incident the other week in which I hit a large pothole in the dark (and that caused a slow puncture which flattened the tyre and wrecked the alloy). AA came out and changed the wheel for the spare, and drove off OK. Next morning, the engine warning/management light came on when I started the car up.

It's shaping up to be a very expensive month motoring wise, so if I could find out how much it could potentially cost,

Many thanks for all your suggestions.

Get someone with an OBDII code reader to get the fault code from the ECU, I have one that connects the ECU via bluetooth to my Android phone :D

Hopefully this test facility will work on your car

To access the test mode, hold the trip meter reset button in and turn the key to the on position, then the gauges will do a full sweep and state gauge on the LCD.. You are then able to press the button to get the details.

The on position is the one where the instrument lights come on but the car doesn't attempt to start.

The link below gives you the info for seeing what each code means.

Problem with that test is it rarely actually produces any usable fault codes. Lots of codes wont show on that.

Get a code reader on it instead.
