Birds nesting in loft

The last few years birds have nested in our loft and been a nuisance scrabbling around at all hours. I found the hole they used to get in and stuffed it with plastic garden mesh (45p in Homebase) to stop them getting in this year.
I just wondered if I am too late as I think I heard one of them up there this morning. I noticed 2 tiles have come off in the recent storms so that could be a new way for them to get in.
Are birds nesting yet or just nosing around ? I thought March/April were the nesting times but with the warm weather nothing would suprise me.

I think they have started nest building already.
I have the same problem with starlings nesting under the tiles….I can’t get to where they get in to block it up as the conservatory is in the way
Time to get the catapult out I think0 -
I can hear one scratching away (from the inside) at where I blocked the hole. So it's either trapped or looking for another way out. I don't particularly like the ide of a dead bird rotting away up there so should I unblock the hole or not ???0

We having nesting boxes in various places in the garden including on the side of the property.... maybe that would give them alternative accommadation if you could put some up.....The birds this way seem to be just viewing the boxes at the moment but we get great pleasure when the offsprings arrive.
