Looking to improve my BT phone/broadband deal

Hi,

I'm currently on BT Option 1 Broadband + Evening & Weekend call plan & BT freeview.

This is coming out at around £28 pcm, including line rental.

From what I can see, it is possible to get on Talk Talk for around £15pcm or Orange (as I am an existing mobile customer) for around £18pcm. Both of these figures include line rental.

This is based on the main site here and on this comparison.

I'd like to avoid too much hassle, etc, and so if BT can offer a comparable deal I would be happy to keep using them. To get a usage allowance comparable to the other deals above, I would need to upgrade to Infinity, but I'm not willing to pay more for this as I already feel like I'm paying over the odds!

I'd be interested to hear any views/advice, tips for negotiating with BT, & any experience of Orange as a broadband provider.

    Do you mean BT Vision?

If you do, only BT can offer that.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Ok, lets work it out. BT LR is £14.60. If you pay £28 a month, that means you are currently on the BB1+UEWP coming in at £13. It's a plan thats been knocking around a while, but on that price it's unlikely you are out of contract. How long do you have left?

BT make it really simple. The prices are higher than most others genuinely although you do get added benefits for your money. If you are in the last 3 months of your term and call BT, just ask for the £8,25 option.

This totals £22.85. Included is a paper bill, Caller Display, Answer 1571, free phone support and everything you would expect from a large company.

BT Infinity isn't comparable. The service is above and beyond anything you can get from most providers, and is available from £16 if you are out of term. It's worth the money considering the free Home Hub 3 and faster speeds, so give it some consideration.

As has already been said, if you are on a "box only" kind of deal with BT that service would pretty much cease, but chances are you can roll over with that service free of charge anyway.

EDIT: Its also possible you could be already on the £8 Broadband with £4 Vision if you have the essential pack and are just referring to it as freeview, im just assuming you're not.
