Oh *** my batter mix has salt in it - I thought I could just sweeten it up and use it for the waffles but maybe not eh?

*edit* the basic waffle recipes all seem to have some salt in so might be ok??

Does it have sugar in already?

I just made my own batter this morning from the recipe in the enclosed book, it had sugar and small amount of salt. Maybe your mix will be ok?

If your feeling lazy and want an easy xmas day and have bought the waffle maker there is a waffle shake mix in lidl for 99p just add milk .......
  • My daughter bought me one of these and I made some whoopie pies with it today. For those wondering, there is a recipe book included which makes enough mix for 14 whoopie pies, (the machine makes 2 at a time) they cook in roughly 5 mins. I tried the chocolate ones and they cooked suprisingly well! I also made the marshmallow filling (recipe also included in book) which is the traditional filling.

    For Vicki

    basic chocolate whoopie recipe

    250g Plain flour
    70g cocoa powder
1 1/4 tsp of bicarbonate of soda
    1/2 tsp of salt
    100g unsalted butter
    160g dark muscavado sugar
    1 large egg
    1 tsp pure vanilla extract
    250ml - 300ml buttermilk

with regards to creating a kilner jar of ingredients, the sugar has to be creamed with the butter and the other dry ingredients mixed in after the egg and buttermilk.

    Hope that helps
  • I've just noticed whoopie pie machines seems yo be back in stock at my local currys, is the price instore still £4.99 or has it gone up to £7.99? Just wondering if its the waffle scenario where price online is more than instore.

I'm wondering why people are buying these when they don't even know what a whoopie pie is. It's not very MSE to buy something just because it's cheap.

I love making cakes, but if this was given to me as a gift, it would end up at the back of the cupboard because it only makes 2 whoopie pies at a time. They may only take 5 minutes to cook, but you will have made a batter for say 12 cakes, so it's going to take you 5x12 minutes cooking, as well as the time it takes to get each batch out of the pie maker, then adding another bit of batter for the next batch.

Far easier to buy a baking pan and put all the batter in at once and get it out of the oven after 15 minutes.

    Just saying.

Have to agree that it is rather foolish to buy something just because it is cheap. As the Curry's website states, the whoopie maker makes two pies. You do not slice them in half you put the cooked portions together with a cream filling. Not had them before but they are said to be delicious.

Have a look here to see what they look like or search Google. I'm sure you can make other things with this but I have no idea. Would probably be one of those things that I would use sporadically, as a treat for kids. No point me buying one though.

    Hope everyone enjoys theirs though.
