British Gas ' looking after your world'

I was just looking through a newspaper from last Monday (December 12) and I saw a series of advertisements from British Gas.
The theoretical question in the ad was "How much profit do you make on my bill?"
The answer was 'Only around 5% of your bill is actually profit'
I guess this is after all their overheads.
Boy, I wish I could make 5% on my money!
Every day you see companies that have 'gone under'. I bet , in these days of austerity, these companies would have been overwhelmed if they could have made 'only 5% profit'...

It is totally irrelevant whether a company makes 5% profit or 50% profit. The only thing that matters is whether or not you get a good service at an acceptable price.
If that is the case with BG..........
see thread on same page.
Hi
For 7 days now we have had no hot water or heating at all,
BG have been nearly every day and not solved the problem,
surely they have a duty of care after this length of time,
last night I again spoke to them and the man said if the boiler
is less than 7 years old they would replace it, we have asked time and again to the repair man if we need to a new one and he says NO, yet we noticed on the form it says the boiler is 5 years old, could this be why they keep trying to fix it and not replace it.
Can anyone advice me if they should be doing something more
many thanks0 -
Oh give it a rest bengasman.
Some people get good service, some people experience bad service. That is the way of things. Naturally people are more inclined to speak about their bad experiences than they are about their good experiences, so of course one will nearly always read about the bad experiences.
Your pathetic vendetta is both boring and pointless.

I remember quite recently a British Gas ad that ran along the lines of 'we will only charge you for the energy you use.'
What the hell is that supposed to mean? The alternative being what if they didn't?
Am I supposed to be thankful that I'm just paying for what I used in the first place? Do I have to be thankful to Tesco, if when paying for a £50 grocery bill, they tell me they are just going to charge me £50?
What a load of cobblers.0 -
Bg are interested in one thing, themselves0

I think this was referring to no standing charges - although at 'normal usage' there is usually no difference between a standing charge tariff and the equivelant no standing charge tariff.I remember quite recently a British Gas ad that ran along the lines of 'we will only charge you for the energy you use.'0 -

Bg don't charge standing charges & the advert relates to EnergySmart & cutting down on estimated bills as you provide your own readings.
That's what we've been doing for 2yrs.0 -
It is one of the typical misleading tactics that have become pretty much standard in the industry.I remember quite recently a British Gas ad that ran along the lines of 'we will only charge you for the energy you use.'

It is supposed to suggest that you are better off because you don't pay standing charges. We all know by now that it the standing charges are hidden in the trebled rate of tier 1.
Much as I dislike BG, they are not the only ones doing it, the rest is just as guilty.0 -
