    Update!
today i received a letter from the plumber stating that if i dont pay the invoice within 7 days he is taking me to court. I find that very soon into an invoice query to say that?

He said he listened to me explaining the fault and that i said "water was exiting from the PRV pipe at rear of building" At no point did i ever say that, i was only made aware of that from the 2nd plumber.

I must stress that at the time he came, the fault code was not flashing, however i did say for most of the previous week it was flashing and every now and then the boiler just comes on and works.

He is still sticking to the expansaion vessel needs replacing theory.

Have i got any grounds here to withhold payment and argue this?

The engineer has call out charges regardless if they are at the property 3 mins or 30 mins. He arrived at the property so I would say the minute he arrives at your door you are responsible for the charge imo.

He's bluffing. He'd go to all that trouble for the sake of £60 (after VAT)? A neighbour of mine is a plumber and is owed a few hundred by a customer and said he'll just take it on the chin rather than go through the courts. He can write it off against his tax anyway.

If I were you I'd just ignore him. If you do receive court papers ever, you can always pay at that point....

... by which time there'll be court and possibly other costs added on.
