Dispute with local hotel with whom I have gym membership

Not sure if this comes under Consumer Rights, but perhaps you can help me?
In October I signed up to my local gym, I paid £420 for a years membership up front. As part of the membership it was advertised and subsequently I received paperwork stating that I would be entitled to 20% discount off of party night booking, drink and food purchased in the hotel.
I have had a couple of incidents with them recently where they tried to go back on this deal when I booked a party night however after sending an email of complaint I was advised we would receive the discount, which we did.
When the party night came on Saturday the 20% discount at the bar was not given when we showed our gym membership cards. I took this up with several members of staff on the night but got no joy. On Sunday I emailed the manager again stating what had happened to be told that we should have received the discount.
I have asked for money back to cover the 20% discount that we should have received but he has refused.
Where do I stand on this?
If he does not change his mind on paying us back the money I believe we are owed am I entitled to cancel my gym membership and ask for a refund? Do I have legal rights? What should I be quoting to him?

You have already accepted the prices without the 20% discount so have left yourself in quite a weak position.
The only thing you can quote at his is your contract, but not sure there is much you can do. I don't think you can cancel your whole contract as a consequence, plus you then have the hassle of getting your money back out of them!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Did he give a reason for refusing?
Put your complaint in writing, include a copy of your contract with them stating the 20% discount. Give them a breakdown of the money you are owed (ie bill was £100 so 20% discount is £20 and therefore £20 is owed). You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
