reason behind warming the car rather than driving it cold and forcing it to temp, is because youll be protecting against wear on the internal componants, especially a turbo vehicle. youll use more fuel and add wear driving it cold, than warming it up.

Wrong,an idling car takes longer to warm up so is more wear and tear on the engine. Also try setting your trip computer and doing the same journey once with the car idling for 20 mins then try it driving off straight away, you'll see a big saving.
Every owners manual tells you to drive the car straight away to save fuel.
    Have a look.
"If an engine is only idling it takes much longer for ot to reach normal; operating temperature.Wear and tear and pollutant emissions, though are particularly high in the warming up phase. This is why you should drive off right after starting the engine."
Octavia owners manual page 225,and my car is a petrol turbo.Every manual I have had says the same thing.

^^^^^^ I wish someone would tell my neighbour that. Every weekday morning at 7 o'clock, summer or winter, rain or shine, he starts his car and then goes back inside to eat his breakfast.

The local council used to slacken the throttle cables so it could not get full throttle, they reckoned it saved around 1/4 of a tank every fill.
