Finding marriage information?

Hi guys, long time poster but I use this ID to prevent certain stalker-type people from snooping. :)

I'm currently in the process of making a CSA claim against the father of my children - my question isn't CSA based, so no need to move it.

The problem that I have is that the only concrete information I have about him is the address that he shares with his current partner.

He uses his mother's address for benefit claims even though he works  so I have given the CSA both addresses - his partner works, claims tax credits and has children of her own and I've been told that they both brag about the money they are raking in.

I have heard many times that they both refer to each other as husband and wife, and a couple of years ago he was telling people that they were getting married.

Is it possible to find out if and when they got married?

It isn't possible for me to request a mutual acquaintance to ask him about this as he will more than likely work out that they are fishing for info on my behalf.

TIA. :)

If you can narrow it down roughly to a time and place you could trawl through the marriage certificates online. I know people who do genealogy do this.

If he's cheating the benefits system you could report him ;)

Marriage certificate online are only available up to 2005.

You'd need to go to the Registry Office near where he lives and look.

You could try searching local newspapers to see if they made a wedding announcement if you cannot get to their local registry office. Not fool proof as many don't make announcements but may be worth a try.

Have you reported them for benefit fraud?

  • You only need a name and date of birth to file a CSA claim. A general area where he lives is also good. You have 2 addresses which is more than enough.

No need to find out if he's married or not as it won't make the blindest bit of difference.

I'd also grass him up to the benefit fraud not that they usually do much. Might make him quit his job if he realises he's gonna have to pay CSA and give up benefits. Means less ££ for you.

    Were they married?

OP - as others have said I'm not sure what relevance his marital status will have on your CSA claim.

It sounds like you're the one that's snooping.

Being married would make it even less likely they would get away with the 'I'm a single man on the dole living with my mum as a carer' type of thing when a benefits compliance investigation starts.

It would also be relevant for contact to know where someone really lives permanently - for example, if the wife has previous for neglect or drugs offences, the fact they are married would suggest that her past is relevant and not an unimportant aside if he says he lives with Nan instead.

Anyhow, there's so much encouragement to inform on suspected benefits cheats - why would people care about the reasons for informing? Payback is as valid a reason as 'thinking I should do my civic duty'.

It might not have any relevance to the CSA - but it might have lots of relevance for other things.

  • Thanks for the replies.

No we weren't married, thank god.

I should have explained myself a little more but I was pressed for time.

Jojo is right in saying that it would help to prove that he is living with her - in the past he has always denied living with other women, and said he's at his mum's.

My friend asked him at the weekend what his address is :j but can't ask him about a marriage straight away in case it gets his back up.

I'm not interested in reporting him to the benefits agency - I've done this many times in the past and nothing got done.

If they did get married then it would have happened during the past 2 years, so the sites with records aren't of use...but thanks for offering mupette. ;)
