Hi
Well it's renewal time for one of the cars, my policy is with aviva which is not due until June 2012, the wife's is due end of December, thought I would call aviva and see if it was cheaper to get second car on same policy. has anyone done this? As I just called aviva and was told could only do this at start of my policy or I would be charged a cancellation charge and they would have to require for my car as well, there is no mention of this n the website,
If the above information is correct I can't see how many people could use multicar insurance, if wife has to take out insurance seperatly then she will get cancellation charge when I renew and I don't know anyone's who's car insurances are all due at the same time.
Have I been told wrongly, is this just me or is it odd?

Hi, normally you just go online , do a multicar quote for both cars, purchase the insurance for the car thats due now and when the time comes purchase the insurance for the second car, you will then get the multicar discount.
However as you already have a car with them you can probably only start the process when you renew in June, you would then get a quote for both and add the other car when it is due for renewal in Dec.
Unfortunately you have just missed the £80 cashbacks on Quidco and Topcashback.... it has just been reduced to £20.
I have just purchased multicar with them, a 2.2L dci diesel and a 1.3L petrol... total price with multicar discount £320 and with Quidco cashback of £80 makes a total cost of £240.0 -
Hi,
I needed to get an older, bigger car for work purposes due to high milage with lots to carry. I looked at the cost of insurance before doing this and decided to go ahead. I got an on-line quote from Aviva but also called them on a number of occassions to check all details. Eventually I went ahead with the policy at £45.74pm and all went well until an email this morning which - after checking my policy again they had increased the premium to over £100pm!
It appears that because they had not received documentation to prove that I had the 9 years no claims for both cars that this was the cause of the change. At NO time was this ever discussed with me when I took the policy out. I asked for their customer service number - they don't have one - you have to write! Suffice to say, I have contacted a broker and will be cancelling the AVIVA policy as I no longer trust them and contacting the FSA re mis selling this policy.
Anyone else come across this problem?:(:huh:0 -
If you have wrongly claimed 9 years NCD which you don't have, then you have nothing to complain about.
(But if I have misunderstood and your NCD proof has got lost in the post, then tell them you sent it and ask for some time to obtain a fresh copy from your previous insurer.)0 -
Supply them with your no claims proof and your sorted surely?
Why are they misselling? They ask you how many years no claims you have. For whatever reason its not on the system so they ask you to provide it.
Whats the issue?
Do you have 2 current insurance policies with 9 years no claims?
If you have one policy with 9 years and no other policy then they were right to ask you, Because you dont have any to use on the 2nd policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi Jim,
Yes - I used it and was mis sold this policy. I clearly stated I had not had two cars before - they quoted my insurance and I accepted the quote. Two months later they increased my insurance by nearly £60 a month! Apparently because you can only use your no claims bonus on one car. I cancelled the policy they planned to increase. This seemed to stop them applying any penalties. I believe I was mis sold this policy.
Eventually I used a local insurance broker to sort it out - which they did and very well.
Hope you get sorted out soon.0 -
In answer to the OP, this year I switched from having 2 policies with Aviva to a multi-car policy. The process was slightly complex - not least because all conversations were with an Indian call centre where it was quite difficult to understand what they were saying. However, the end result made it worthwhile.
My car - premium £320 (6 months into 12 month period)
My wife's car - premium £253 (due for renewal)
Multi-car premium - £416
Refund for 6 months unused premium on may car - £152
Net premium - £264
So for an extra £11 on my wife's premium I managed to get my own car insured for an extra 6 months
The only slight drawback was that the multi-car policy had to be taken out in my wife's name (as it was her policy that was due for renewal). I could take out the policy in my name if I waited 6 months for my policy to be up for renewal, but I couldn't face spending 20 mins with the call-centre again!
PS. Just noted that OP's post was last year, so this is probably no longer of interest to them but may be to others0 -
I think it is a harder process but all the same it does save you money!0

Doesnt work for everyone though. Been a fair few posts where people have insured 2 cars with separate insurers for a lot less than a multicar policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
