Poss dodgy meter - when best to swap providers?

Hi all
I have finally paid off my debt to my existing provider of gas/elec and am considering swapping to a new one. The intention being to reduce the cost.
However, I suspect that my elec meter is running fast. Aside from monitoring it personally, it's not been investigated.
If I swap to a new provider, can I ask them to investigate it and if it proves to be inaccurate, can I still approach the previous provider for a refund covering the period I was with them?
Thanks for your help.

Be best to settle the Fast meter problem if it exists, before you Switch provider.
That way you still have an account with your present provider on which to claim credits if the meter is faulty - If you have moved they won't take much interest.
Check this meter for yourself - Switch off everthing and unplug all the appliances that have a plug. Read the meter and then read it again after 20mins - It should not have moved - If it has re-check that you really have turned everything off, if you have and the meter is still moving you may have a wiring/appliance fault that will need a visit from a local Sparks
If the meter has not moved, borrow a fan heater if you don't have one. On the back of this will be a plate stating how many Kw it uses - Read the meter, switch on the fan heater, run it for an hour then turn it off. The meter should have advanced only by the number of units listed on the heater - If it's used more, repeat the test with another heater and if the result is the same contact your supplier as it's possible you do have a fast meter0 -
Thank you dogshome. I'll get onto it today.0
