Apple 'better than Intel on chips'

An industry expert has said that software giant Apple is better than Intel at making mobile chips.

According to Gus Richard, a senior chip analyst at securities firm Piper Jaffray, Apple has advantages over Intel as in today's world of tablets and smartphones, chip competition is about stacking up circuit "blocks" and getting the software to work with chips, rather than sticking to Moore's Law.

In an article published by Cnet, Mr Richard said that Apple has a different approach to chip making. For its A5 processor, used to power iPhone and iPad, it has created system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions that are tailor-made for specific uses.

As the firm limits its work on chips for mobile devices, it has the benefit of longer battery life, instant on and a fast connection that requires "lower power" and therefore seems to perform better than more-powerful processors of Intel.

On the other hand, Intel creates chips for general use and can be plugged into a wide range of devices. It works on enhancing processing power exponentially.

Mr Richard said: "There is nothing leading edge about Apple's A5 processor. However, the performance of an iPad is perceived by users as better than a PC. This is because the product has a longer battery life, instant on, and a fast internet connection."

not even going to bother going into too much detail on this since most of it appears to be marking carp.

the only thing really to point out is that Apple do not make ANY chips, its actually Samsung who make them, and to top it off Apple do not even design the chip's since the A5 processor is actually a ARM chip design with minor modifacations

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Even if this were true, whatever it actually means, the question would be, "Why are you telling us this?"

If they are so good why are 'Apple' chips only in Apple products?

The Apple Macbooks must be the best laptops on the planet! Every time I turn on a film or BBC program I see one! I see them in adverts for sofas. Why, even the Llyods TSB advert has cartoon looking ones in it!

It has got to be because they are the most popular, widely selling laptops in the world, surely?! I can't imagine the BBC (and others) doing anything disreputable like a deal behind doors to advertise Apple products by stealth.......

Busy people those Apple marketeers and astroturfers :-) If you want anything free from Apple, just tell them you're making a film and let them shower your with free products!
