Salary Sacrifice (TSA)/Working Tax Credit (Manpower)

I signed up with Manpower and have gotten a couple of weeks work from them. When I signed up the person I spoke to told me that I should opt into the Travel and Subsistence Arrangement as I'd end up making more money than without. Now I find out that I may not be able to claim Working Tax Credit.
My circumstances are:
Not earned over tax threshold this year
Working 37-40 hours per week at just over NMW
Not claiming any other benefit, and am over 25
Work is about 4 miles from home, I take public transport
Signed the TSA less than 1 week ago (should it be something that could be cancelled)
I have done a benefits calculation and found that with Working Tax Credit I would get approximately £36 per week extra. I have found some information on this TSA arrangement, but to be honest I can't figure it out. Any ideas, going to call the Tax Office tomorrow, but would like to know roughly where I stand
