pull cord wiring

I recently removed the halogen light fitting in my kitchen which was operated by a pull cord switch, unfortunately I did not make a note how it was wired, when I wanted to fit a new one I was some what confused with the wires left hanging out the ceiling, I have two lots of twin and earth one of which is normal (blue, brown and green/yellow) coming from the fuse box and the other cable has the blue strand covered with a brown sheathing, I am not sure whether this is live or neutral therefore I am completely unsure as to wire the new fitting safely, there is a connector block with 4 terminals just like the old fitting, does anyone have any ideas? many thanks HHH

I take it that the pullcord switch has not been touched and is not part of the light fitting.
I would say that if the cable with the blue wire covered in brown sheathing is the cable from the switch and the other cable is the mains supply. You should be able to work it out from there.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. omit the cable to the next light fitting, if not fitted.
