I've had similar work done - a complete gutting and making good of the old bathroom and replacing the bathroom suite with a decent new one, skimming, tiling, painting, electrics, extractor fan, lighting, etc, etc.
Ballpark figure was £2,500 labour and £3,500 materials (including the tiles, shower suite, toilet, basin, etc). So total was £5K. The work took around 10 days.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0 -
We would charge approx £2,600 for the labour, depending on wall area..
Our customers allways supply their own sanitary ware etc because they generally know what they want so we don't get involved..
Wouldn't bother with checkatrade, they have phoned me twice saying We've been recommended by customers of checkatrade members..Nice.. Then ask for £500 to become a member or £750 to be added to their booklet..
They have never made anyone a non member and allways find in favour of the member as they are paying the money..
You can leave a 'negative' comment but the tradesman gets the last word..

We are based in Brighton so know the price I've said is a rough guide down here..
Good luck..0 -

Exactly. Were I to leave negative comments about the so-so builder, they could come back with "The customer expected us to make good old pipe holes, but that was not in the quote" or whatever. So it would look like I was being unfair.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Installing a bathroom is not rocket science. A competent DIYer could do that lot without too much trouble. Most of it is just general DIY, but carried out in or near a bathroom. There is certainly nothing there that I haven't tackled at one time or another. Having said that, the specification listed is pretty extensive and, I would think, it might be quite difficult to come up with an accurate quote. I don't think that 10 days is realistic for just one man. Even if he has the help of a labourer. The problem with bathrooms, is that usually they are too small for more than one person to work at the same time. But all jobs have completely different problems.
What about the electrical work? I thought that had to be done by an electrician & not a DIYer even if they could do the work.0 -
Like for like replacement is not notifiable and DIYable. The work you descibe in the lead post is notifiable IMHO.
What was his price BTW?
