  • i would never hand over a piece of official paper with my details printed on. I would be asking to be id fraud-ed.

I would blank out my details before I hand it over.

When selling a property you need to produce a water bill as this will show a sewerage charge. This provides the necessary proof that the property is connected to the sewerage mains.

Don't understand why the attitude

Surely it's no big deal to just be polite and pass on the info. After all, what goes around comes around.

    Exactly!!

When we bought our house in December last year, we were forwarded a copy of the vendors water bill from the solicitor, along with the explanation that it was to prove that the property is connected to the sewerage mains. It was something the vendor HAD to supply us with as proof.

Seeing as the vendor in this situation is the landlady, she will not have the water bill in her name to prove the seweare connection, so they are asking that you send a copy of your bill as proof as it is in your name for the property.

Making things difficult and holding up progress of the sale because you won't disclose information they ask of you won't do you any favours where the landlady is concerned. They are not asking you these things for the fun of it, they are compulsory to forward to the buyer before exchange of contracts can take place.

have not changed gas & elec suppliers.. as for the water bill they will not be getting any bill from me, they know it is on a water meter, have had alot of problems with the agents for the past year so glad to be getting out of here, do not see why i should help them, they have not helped me when i have had problems with the property:mad:

Well, I suppose you have a reason then. That's fine. Turn about is fair play.

Just make sure, if you have a deposit, that you have an independant inventory clerk do the closing condition report on the property and take photos.

Also, try and get a letter from the LL now, giving you a good reference, if you think you might need it.

And, if you are going to rent again, stay away from the larger chains, as they do talk to each other and have access to the tenants blacklist. Stay with the smaller one stop agents, if you can.

Yes. You need to be very careful with utility bills as they are used for proof of address when opening accounts etc. There is no way I would hand one over or allow a copy to be made. I would be happy to write a letter detailing the utility companies used but that's all. The buyer can then ring the utility company and ask their questions directly.
