Query about inheritance

Hi!

Unexpectedly, I along with three other siblings were informed by a solicitor (who was acting as executor) on the 30th of June that we were due to inherit the estate of an old friend of my mums (she had no family). On the 21st of September (after I emailed them for more information) I was informed that
the completion of the administration of the estate cannot be done until 18 November 2011 after a 6 month period had expired.

Last week I emailed them asking when the completion of the estate will be done. But they never replied, then Sunday I visited their website found out their email had changed and emailed them again. The solicitors have not returned my emails.

Any advice?

Call them? It's harder for a solicitor to ignore a phone call than an email...

Ring the Law Society. If you tell them who the solicitor is and the name of the company, they can tell you if there are any problems.

They can also give you the name of the lawyer in the firm to whom complaints are to be made. Do this in writing.

Ok I will give them a call, I probably would have if I knew more about the process, was a bit worried I might have been seen as burdening them.

RAS, do you think they are being unprofessional in not responding?

If the completion of the administration of the estate cannot be done until 18 November 2011, should I have the money by now?

    Thanks

There might not be any money after debts etc. have been paid.

I was told in September that the estate came to £38,202.85. All of the estate has been engathered and after payment of funeral expenses and debts which they have received to date there is a balance of £27,400.14 which has been invested for the meantime with Scottish Building Society.
