Named driver had accident: renewal?

Hi all,
I was a named driver on someone elses policy and drove their car for a short while. One particular point I had an accident resulting in a total loss; it was down as my fault.
Now it comes to renewal for my own policy on my own car, how does this work? Am I correct in assuming that I have to put it down as my claim even though it didn't come off my policy?
I've just had my renewal quote through and need to know whether I need to tell my insurance or whether my friend will tell his or both?
Thanks.

You must do what your policy documentation tells you to do. Some tell you to report all incidents immediately, others tell you to do so at renewal.
Regardless of the claim being made on another policy, you are highly likely to have to report this to your insurer. Check your docs for their requirements.I am a mortgage broker. when mrs bumped myn on my policy, it goes against me not her on the renewal.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

You probably still need to tell them it's usually any accidents in last 5 years, I had a write off in a company car, 100% not my fault but I still have to declare it.0

Right I see, just wondered because these comparison sites ask about claims in last five years so thinking about what to put there. I don't think they mention accidents, but "claims'0

This is from one of those sites:-
Please give us details of any accidents or claims you've had involving your car in the last 5 years. Please include incidents where you were not deemed to be at fault or where you were driving a different vehicle.
It asks the same for each driver.0
