Lost Camera - Can I buy another while claim goes through?

Hi all
I've lost my trusty Panasonic TZ7 and have just contacted my insurance company (LV) to make a claim.
I need my camera over the next few days and had planned on going and getting another later today.
Can I do this or do I have to let the insurance company source one for me - which will obviously take time?
Thanks for any advice.

You can do it but if the insurer gives you a cash settlement they are entitled to reduce it to reflect the price they would have paid for it (needless to say insurers get fairly large discounts because of the volumes they put through retailers). The exceptions to this almost certainly wouldnt apply in your circumstances0
