Bathroom ceiling light...

Options
Need some advice. Bathroom light decided its time was up so bought a new one. Fitted it on my own this morning working fine, but didn't come across any earth wire, I know there are earth wires running through the house because I fitted lights in all other room when i bought the house in September, is there anything i can do, or any alternative to using and earth wire as i plan to do the bathroom next year and don't want any expensive repair bills at the moment, any help would be great full. Thanks Craig.

does the new light require an earth?
is the light unit suitable for a bathroom? (not all lights are).

I'd figure that you'll need an electrician to run a supplementary earth... or something like that

Mind I'm a total amateur so don't listen to me....

Yeah, we had a sealed one installed in our wetroom, believe it's on a separate ring main :S

the ring main is for the power sockets. usually one upstairs and one downstairs.
the lighting system is called a light circuit. and again its usually two seperate circuits.

If the lighting circuit dates back to the early '60s or earlier, then there may be no earth in the circuit. They expected people to use only plastic fittings back then and saved a bit of money on the cable.

Provided the fitting is double insulated, it should be safe without the earth. If it isn't, then you will need to "borrow" an earth from somewhere else to make it safe.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
