Dont know where to start to reclaim PPI

I telephoned a general PPI claims handler today to see if I would be entitled to claim for misold PPI on a loan I had approx 6 years ago.
I used the PPI for 1 month as I was off sick from work through pregnancy related illness - so did not think I could claim however I have been advised if I paid a direct debit of one monthly payment rather than the insurance on a seperate payment I may have a case.
The loan was an HBOS loan and this has been paid off and I dont have the paperwork or agreement number.
What steps should I follow now?

If you have made a claim that doesnt stop you making a complaint. However, it does eliminate a couple of compliant reasons (i.e. you cant complain you were not eligible as the claim paid out and you cant complain you didnt know you had it, as the claim shows you did).however I have been advised if I paid a direct debit of one monthly payment rather than the insurance on a seperate payment I may have a case.
If you are paying the PPI by monthly direct debit rather than it being front loaded onto the loan, then that eliminates the most common complaint that results in success. PPI should be paid monthly with no interest charged on it. If you are paying by monthly direct debit for it then it eliminates that complaint reason. What steps should I follow now?
You contact HSBC and give them your reasons for complaint.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

If any/all apply to you, then put a claim in,send this to the bank and give them 14 days to reply.
Please dont use a claims handler, you will have to do the above, and they will take a hefty fee plus vat if you win.0
