British gas prepayment electric meter

Hi all

New user here so please don`t slate my stupid posts.

(I signed up here to ask about British gas electric key meters but before I posted this I tried to offer what was called stupid advice elsewhere.)

I am an electric customer of BG and have recently had a usb device posted out to me so I can top up my electricity key at home over the internet.

Since first using the device I have noticed that my electricity is not lasting as long as it used to (I`ve added no new electrical devices to the home), all my top ups apart from one have been via this device (the odd one out was at a paypoint).

My question is, what do I need to ask BG for to find out why my electric isnt lasting as long as it should be? Do I need to get a statement off them for the time before and after the new device or is there something I need to get them to look at?

I`m not loosing that much electricity but loosing anything at this time of year is not good.

My normal £15 top up used to last me upto a week and a half and I very rarely had to use the emergency credit but now £15 is only lasting me a week and I`m using the emergency more often.

I know the answer would be get a quarterly meter installed but that is not an option at the moment.

Any advice would be gratefully received

  • Probably more to do with the fact that the price went up by 16% on the 18th August, have you thought about getting the PPM changed to a credit meter?
  • Its probably more the fact that lights are on for longer now as its darker earlier at night and earlier in the morning!

Plus the fact the prices went up!

Im also with BG and have the home top up units and i think they are great I myself top up £15 a fortnight and normally still have nearly £4 left at the end of the fortnight!
