My friend came with me to look at a new car today.he looked round it and then offered to test drive it with me.we pulled out of the garage and went about 300 yards and there was a mobile police camera (due to road works).he was going at about 34 in a temp 30 zone as we had just set off, and we had pulled out beyond any signs so had missed the 30 warning signs which we saw on the way back.I feel bad now in case he gets points or a fine but i can't afford to get any points as i've just pased my test in nov.the car isn't registered in my name yet as i am only picking it up friday.I don't know what to do.i read somewhere that you don't get endorsements with mobile cams just fines.if thats the case i can pay it for him.

Do you mean 34 in in a 30 zone? (As opposed to the 34 in a 40 zone that you wrote). If so, I really wouldn't worry about it. Realistically, they would have been driving about 30 - 31 mph as the speedo is never correct.

Also, you get endorsements with a mobile or fixed camera.

Don't worry about it, unless it appears on the doormat...
  • You should be O.K at 34mph, at 35mph you MAY get offered the chance to go on a course and avoid any fine/points, it will cost you about £90? though, it depends on the area you live in.

Technically it was a 50 mph zome but this was a temp cam due to roadworks.we had driven out of the garage and from that point to the cam there were no warning signs,(on the way back we saw the signs that were before the garage) as it was such a short distance.my friend was driving anyway but i have said i willl pay the fine cos he was doing me a favour by coming with me to test drive the car:rolleyes:

  • I would have thought that unless there was a sign between the garage and the camera, then they can't prosecute. The rules on sign placement are very strict....its unlikely you'll get anything through (not knowing who you are will help), but if you do, then i would think its easily fightable
    Just my view however

I agree. The registered keeper of the car might get a ticket. But that`s not you or your mate is it?. I wouldn`t be very happy if I let someone test drive my car and get caught speeding though. Depends on your honesty really.

The problem is that i am going to buy the car.As from this friday it will be mine, so they will be able to trace it to me or the garage depending on timing.I'm not sure if anyone else test drove it that day or not.i just feel bad that if it goes through he will get points, and he was doing me a favour.

    Seriously, don't worry!

I highly doubt you will have been caught!

so technically and legally it was a 30mph zone, the previous limit on a road has no bearing

what are the rules that there has to be a speed camera warning sign after every entry and exit point on a road(serious question, never noticed where signs are actually located)? otherwise I can't see that being valid otherwise everyone would just claim they had only joined a road at the previous junction or something so saw no signs

How did you get to the garage? If you drove, you would have seen the signs before you arrived at the garage, therefore you should have remembered when you went on the test drive.

no we came in a different way.we took a short cut back and passed the signs but on the way there we came off a dual carriageway and turned right straight into the garage. If we had seen the signs before we wouldnt be in this mess would we??
