Credit searches for Car Insurance quotes

I use Experians creditexpert and have noticed that when I have applied for car insurance quotes some providers search my credit file.

As you can well imagine, this causes some concern as I do not know if this will have a detrimental effect on my credit score given that I may be searching numerous insurance companies for the best quote.

I have emailed Experian querying this but have yet to receive a reply. Can anyone advise if there have also noted this or have had experience of this.

I've noticed it before when I got my credit record sent through.

DD payments are finance arrangements so they check you out.

When you put your vehicle reg in and that is searched on it is also logged by HPI.

I have a personal reg and the report is getting pretty long after all the shopping around over the years.

I understand the logic if I have actually accepted the product but I usually pay my insurance up front therefore I am not using the DD facility.

All I am asking the insurance provider is how much it would cost them to insure my car thorugh a quote. I do not understand why there have to search my credit file.

Its a bit perplexing.
