Laptop to play minecraft

I need a powerfull laptop for my son who is heavily into minecraft.

Now I know this isn't going to be a £250 jobbie but could somebody recommed a laptop that is a good one to supply sufficient power to let him play in peace - well to give me a bit of peace and quiet from "the computers stopped working again mum".

I have a standard- nothing-special Acer (a 5532) and my son plays Minecraft on it all the time without a problem (except when its busy, sometimes it is a bit 'glitchy' when its busy).

That's not actually true!
Despite the way it looks, Minecraft is pretty resource intensive.
That said, any half way powerful laptop should run it ok. But to run it well you need dedicated a dedicated graphics chip!

OP: Have a look at the £350 laptops thread and see if there are any there with dedicated graphics chips. If so, they should run minecraft ok.

Doesn't minecraft run off Java? What I mean is, as long as your aptop has a decent processor and a halfway decent dedicated graphics card, it should play fine. It does glitch a lot when it is busy, and there are a few things you can adjust on it to make it run a bit better, but before we bought him a new laptop, my son was playing it on my ten year old desktop and it worked well.

Minecraft works just fine on an year old emachines netbook for sub £200. I got it from ebuyer.com having gone through TCB for a little cashback of course!
They currently stock a similar spec ASUS for £228 which should also be able to handle Minecraft without any great probs.
