Can anyone tell me what type of planning permission is required to replace sash and case windows with double glazing in Portobello, Edinburgh which is a conservation area?
I've had a look on-line but can't make much sense of the guidelines.
Thanks in advance.

Take it you've looked at the planning guidelines at https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk ?
Have you tried phoning the planning department? Have any of your neighbours replaced their windows recently?0 -
Yes looked at the website, not been able to get through on the phone and no, no-one's had their windows replaced recently. Thanks though.
Anyone else??0 -
Normally in Conservation areas, you have to keep the changes to fit in with the rest of the area.
This will most probably mean you have to fit wood framed sash windows. You may not be able to have double glazed units put in the sash windows, but I remember seeing on a tv show one time, some special single glaze glass with good insulating properties0 -
The guidance on acceptable window types is here
For domestic/householder alterations you can apply online using the portal or using forms D2 and SV1
The fee will be £160
You probably do not require a Building Warrant but the windows must comply with current Scottish Building Standards. (These are different to the English Building Regulations.)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
