Travelling on EasyJet with children

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Germany in the new year.

The cheapest flights I can find are likely to be with EasyJet.

We will be travelling with our two children who are both under 5.

I know the seats are not allocated, so they are on a first come basis. So how does that work if you have children?

Also, do you think it would be worth paying extra and travelling with a standard airline?

Thanks

  • Hello,

a good decision to visit Germany. (my home country)

With small children it may be better to go to smaller cities like Austrian Innsbruck, Salzburg or German München.
    Especially Berlin could be overcrowded.

So if you have questions about germany – feel free to ask.

    About EJ - Good news:

"We operate boarding groups which are defined as follows:

Group SB: Passengers who have purchased Speedy Boarding or who hold an easyJet Plus! card.
Group SA: Passengers who have pre-booked special assistance and families (maximum 2 adults) where at least one child is aged 5 years or under and other members of their party up to the age of 13.
    Group 2: all remaining passengers."

We've never had problems flying with easyJet and an under-5, as explained above. Don't worry about it!
  • Thanks MarkyMark.

    Thanks for the tips Michael_MUC.
  • Hi,

We have travelled to Munich from Edinburgh airport several times over the last few years with one (then two) young children (all under 5). What we found was at Edinburgh airport the Easyjet staff call the families with young children first, you then walk down the gangway onto the aircraft, so no problem. However at Munich Airport, they call the families first, you then board a bus to take you to the aircraft, then its a mad scramble to get on the plane from the bus with everyone on board. We ended up nearly last due to us carrying the kids and baggage. We still got a seat though beside the kids.
It's worth it though, Germany is one of the most underated countries to visit. We love Bavaria, from the rolling hills and beautiful towns in northern Bavaria, to the mountains and lakes in the south. And of course Munich. Enjoy!

  • If you are on the first bus then there will be no problem finding seats - even if you are last off the bus. As soon as the departure gate is shown on the departure board - go and queue up. This will ensure you get seats together, regardless of whether they call families forward first (or not).

I've always found Easyjet to be pretty good.

For Germany I would expect that you would have no problems. If you were going somewhere like Menorca, where the plane would be packed with young families, then I'd recommend paying for speedy boarding. We've only paid once, and that was because it was a 4 hour flight and thought it was worth guaranteeing seats together.

The times we have travelled back from Munich airport we were always on the first bus, however it waited for the other buses behind us to fill up before they all set off for the aircraft. All the buses arrived at the same time and opened their doors at the same time allowing the sprint to begin for the plane.
